Stay in the Best Hotels in Old Quebec City

26 Fab Hotels in Quebec City’s Old Town

Last Updated on March 5, 2024 by Pamela MacNaughtan

Deciding which hotel to book in Quebec City’s old town, best known as Old Quebec (Vieux-Québec), can be an interesting process. Do you stay in a hotel or opt for a bed and breakfast? What about renting a place through Airbnb? Or maybe you are on a budget and prefer to stay in a hostel.

When planning a trip to Quebec City it is important to decide where to sleep well in advance (six to eight months in advance for festivals like Festival d’été de Québec and Fêtes de la Nouvelle France), especially in high season (end-May to mid-October), and during Carnaval de Québec (end-January to mid-February) when the city feels as though it’s bursting at the seams with tourists.

In low season, room rates vary from $100 CAD per night to $450 CAD per night, however, in high season the rates can jump from $150 CAD per night to as high as $700+ CAD per night. Another reason to book early!

Neighbourhoods

While most people visit Quebec City to see Old Quebec (Vieux-Quebec), that doesn’t mean you need to stay in the old city. I highly encourage you to venture into neighbourhoods outside the old city to give yourself a well-rounded Quebec experience. Here are some neighbourhoods to consider (don’t worry, I’ll include the old city as well, it is beautiful).

old quebec (vieux-québec): One of the oldest neighbourhoods in Quebec City, this neighbourhood is the first place people go when they arrive in the city. Here, you’ll find a variety of hotels, bed and breakfasts, short-term apartment rentals, as well as a hostel. There is something for every budget in Old Quebec. Spending time admiring the old architecture, enjoying patios in summer, taking a walking tour (historic or food, you cannot go wrong), and wandering around historic sites is a good way to begin your stay in Quebec City.

petit-champlain & place royale: The site of the very first settlement in 1608, today these neighbourhoods are all cobblestone streets, 17th & 18th-century buildings, boutiques and cafes. While there are no hotels (it’s a small area), there are, however, a couple of highly-rated short-term apartment rentals!

old port (vieux-port): Wander around museums, enjoy the fresh air and relax in public squares, eat traditional Québécois cuisine or hang out around the marina. This neighbourhood has some of the city’s best mid-range and luxury hotels. If you’re looking for a quiet neighbourhood as a base, which is close to Old Quebec, Old Port (Vieux-Port) is the right neighbourhood for you.
