Festive Fun at the Christmas Markets in Quebec City

Last Updated on November 17, 2024 by Pamela MacNaughtan

The holiday season begins with the Christmas markets in Quebec City, with their festive décor and goodies created by local artisans and producers. There are Christmas decorations and local terroir, live music events, and Santa Claus.

Honestly, I love visiting the different Christmas Markets in Quebec City each year – especially after a fresh layer of snow. Some are open for a day or two, while others are open for several weeks. Going to the German Christmas Market in Old Quebec City is a must for me. It is pure Christmas magic IMO.

That’s not the only Christmas Market in Quebec City, though!

Here are the Christmas Markets in Quebec City in 2024.

Visiting Christmas Markets in Quebec City

Marché de Noël allemand de Québec

22nd Nov to 23rd Dec

It’s the 17th anniversary of the German Christmas Market in Quebec City, and it continues to get better every year. Located in Old Quebec City, Marché de Noël allemand de Québec is my favourite holiday event. There are five locations, all with wood chalets filled with local artisans and producers selling everything from fondue and stollen to candles, decorations, clothing, and more. Plus, there are outdoor bars, live music, Santa, and puppet shows. Oh, and Krampus! It’s a really good time.

Address: Old Quebec City’s upper town • Market hours: Thurs-Sat 11am-9pm, Sun 11am-6pm • Website: mnaq.ca/en

Marché de Noël – Wendake

22nd Nov to 24th Nov

Spend a day in Wendake learning about Indigenous and First Nations cultures and traditions, dine on Indigenous cuisine, and shop for handicrafts made by Indigenous artisans. This year marks the 9th anniversary of the Christmas market in Wendake, which is held at Complexe Sportif Desjardins Québec from 22nd Nov to 24th November.

Address: 100, rue Chef-Alphonse-Picard • Market hours: Fri 4pm-8pm, Sat 10am-5pm, Sun 10am-4pm • Updates on their Facebook page.

Le Grand Marché de Québec

22nd Nov to 5th Jan

In Limoilou next to the Vidétron Centre, Le Grand Marché is a sun-soaked farmer’s market filled with local artisans and producers. It’s a great place to shop for local terroir, and during the holiday season, it is transformed into a Christmas marketplace – complete with lots of Christmas bling! Arrive hungry and ready to sample local terroir, stay for lunch, and buy some Québécois souvenirs for yourself and some friends.

Address: 250, boulevard Wilfrid-Hamel • Market hours: daily 9am-6pm; until 5pm Sat & Sun • legrandmarchedequebec.com

Handicrafts at a Christmas Market in Quebec City

Marché de Noël Afro-Québec

23rd Nov • 9am-5pm

Also held at Le Grand Marché, this Christmas market celebrating Afro-Québec culture features handicrafts, clothing, decorations, and objects d’art. There are workshops for making your own holiday decorations and making your gifts look extra fancy and festive. Best of all, it’s a chance to learn about local artisans – whom you can continue to love and support after the holiday season. Yay!

Visit their FB event page for more details.

Marché de Noël de l’Île d’Orléans

29th Nov to 1st Dec

It’s no secret that Île d’Orléans is one of my favourite day trips from Quebec City (even in winter when many places are closed for the season). The island is known for its wineries, farms, delicious restaurants, beauty, and artists. During the holiday season, I love this Christmas Market in Quebec City’s region. It’s held at Espace Félix Leclerc and features terroir, art, and handicrafts from artisans on Île d’Orléans. It’s fabulous.

Address: 1214, chemin Royal • FB event page

Christmas market events pop up all over the city each year, all featuring local products. Galeries de la Capitale and Laurier Québec shopping malls have small markets featuring popular Quebec brands and artisans. It’s a great excuse to buy extra Quebec-made treats and experience the local culture.

Joyeux noël, mes amis! xx
