Best Burgers: Le Chic Shack in Old Quebec

Last Updated on March 6, 2024 by Pamela MacNaughtan

One of the busiest restaurants in Old Quebec in summer, Le Chic Shack is known for their juicy gourmet burgers, flavourful poutines, and boozy milkshakes.

Located under Musée du Fort on rue du Fort, Le Chic Shack is a short walk from Fairmont Château Frontenac and Dufferin Terrace. Dine at a communal bar-height table near the grill, or in their dining area overlooking the château and Old Quebec. In summer, their small patio is almost always bursting at the seams, the windows are thrown open, and there is usually a line of hungry tourists waiting to get inside.

During the low season, Le Chic Shack becomes a haven for local burgers and poutine connoisseurs.

Le Chic burger without lettuce

Every burger at Le Chic Shack is handmade with 100% Canadian beef, plump, juicy, expertly grilled, and served on brioche buns made by a local bakery (Borderon et fils) – with the exception of their vegetarian burger. Creating a mouthwatering burger foundation ready for punches of flavour.

The menu at Le Chic Shack offers six core burgers, many of which have been on the menu since day one. In summer, however, limited edition burgers are added (and we cannot wait to see what they introduce this year).

In the meantime, we will nosh on the following.

Le Shack, their signature burger, is topped with Gruyère cheese, succulent red ale-braised beef, house-made pickles, red onion, tomato, horseradish aioli and chic sauce (their house-made secret sauce). It’s a messy burger, and definitely one of our favourites.

Le Chic, another signature burger, is topped with local cheddar cheese, maple-smoked bacon, bibb lettuce, tomato, house pickles and chic sauce. Another deliciously messy burger that will have you wanting to lick the juicy goodness from your fingers.

Chiquito, is a simple burger ideal for kids and adults who crave a cheeseburger (with a chic sauce kick) without all the bells and whistles. This is our go-to burger when we also want to indulge in poutine or order truffle fries.

the poutines & fries

Best Poutine in Quebec City, Canada

Similar to their burger menu, the poutine menu at Le Chic Shack features a small selection of poutines throughout the year, however, in summer the choices are often expanded with limited edition creations.

You won’t find traditional fries in your poutine at Le Chic Shack, instead, they service chunky hand-smashed potato pieces which do not fall apart among the marriage of flavours and textures within the bowl.

La Braisée features red ale-braised beef, parmesan, cheese curds, pickled onions, horseradish aioli and fresh herbs. This is, by far, our favourite all-year poutine (mostly because of the horseradish aioli).

La Forestière features a wild mushroom ragout, parmesan, cheese curds, shallots and fresh herbs. Deliciously earthy poutine, perfect on a cold day.

Looking for something simple? Order their traditional poutine which features their hand-smashed potato chunks, homemade gravy and fresh cheese curds.

While the poutines are superb, there is nothing quite like a bowl of truffle fries to make the day better. The Signature fries feature truffle oil, parmesan and fresh herbs. Our go-to choice when enjoying a Chiquito burger. Tip: order a side of horseradish aioli for dipping!

don’t forget these delicious morsels!

As if gourmet burgers and poutine were not enough, Le Chic Shack has some delicious extras that should not be missed! Treat your sweet tooth to a seasonal tartlet or go all out and order Lucy’s Ice Cream Sandwich which marries vanilla ice cream with their famous Kitchen Sink Cookies.

Thirsty? Order chocolate or salted caramel milkshake (you can make it a boozy one if you wish!), or try one of their homemade sodas!
