Poulet Frit Wong, a dedicated gluten-free restaurant, has opened in Quebec City, and it’s serving delightfully juicy fried chicken.
Poulet Frit Wong is not a new name in Quebec City, it started as a takeaway/delivery restaurant in the kitchens of Restaurant Wong in Old Quebec in autumn 2024. A passion project of chef Stephen Wong, who has close friends with celiac disease, takes great care to ensure gluten-free foods are cooked in a safe environment.

When Poulet Frit Wong operated as a ghost kitchen, Stephen made adjustments to ensure the deep fryer was dedicated to gluten-free foods. Now, with the opening of Poulet Frit Wong in Saint-Roch, Stephen has taken his desire to create a safe eating experience for celiacs a step further – instructing his staff to keep sandwiches and gluten-containing foods out of their lunches at work.
Stephen’s eye for detail and passion for good (safe) food is exciting and tantalizing, and I’m eager to see what comes next – I have never wanted summer to arrive so badly in all my life.
Poulet Frit Wong: delicious, juicy fried chicken for all!

Poulet Frit Wong is Quebec City’s first dedicated gluten-free fried chicken restaurant. It’s a small space (until phase 2 is completed) with sunshine-yellow walls, metal tables and chairs. It’s a cheerful space with equally cheerful staff – a welcoming atmosphere while many of us wait for winter to end (It’s me, I want winter to end, I am done with snow).
The menu is small and focused: fried chicken (2, 3 or 4 pcs), fries, Asian-inspired coleslaw, and spicy mayo or house sauce (or both).

My order: 3pc meal with both sauces and a side of coleslaw. The house sauce is delicious, and next time I’m tempted to pour it over the chicken just before eating it; making sure there are plenty of napkins because there is no way I will finish without a dot or two of sauce on my clothing. This time around, I mostly dipped in the spicy mayo; wishing I had asked for an extra one when I ordered.
The coleslaw is so good, that I could eat a large bowl of it and still want more.
Eat at Poulet Frit Wong
I’m not celiac, but I have friends and family who are, so I take great care when recommending gluten-free restaurants in Quebec City. There is a risk of cross-contact in most restaurants, which is why I always recommend asking before ordering.
Thankfully, there is no need to ask at Poulet Frit Wong; it is the most dedicated gluten-free restaurant in Quebec City!
Note: This is not a sponsored post, I (happily) paid for my meal.

French Gluten-Free Translation Card
While several restaurants and bars in Quebec City have servers that speak a little English, communicating dietary needs can be confusing and sometimes frustrating. My friend Jodi from Legal Nomads is celiac, and has a variety of Gluten-Free translation cards, including one in French! She’s also written several GF food guides.
